A monumental fountain between natura, drama and scenography
Beyond a balustrade decorated with 12 sculptures, stands the Via d’Acqua’s last fountain: the Fountain of Diana and Actaeon. An elliptical basin, bordered by fake rocks, collects the water from Mount Briano’s waterfall. Actaeon, on the left, fleeds after surprising Diana in the bathroom. The furious Goddess punishes the young hunter by transforming him into a deer: unrecognizable, he will be mauled by his own dogs. Based on an overall model made by Tommaso Solari, the Fountain of Diana and Actaeon was built between 1786 and 1789 and it’s the result of a number of sculptors’ contribution: Pietro Solari, Paolo Persico, Angelo Brunelli and Andrea Violani.
