Graefer’s elegant home

Also known as the English Palace, the Gardener’s House was designed and built by Carlo Vanvitelli between 1790 and 1794. The ground floor was used by the court as a reception area. The first floor housed the apartments of the botanist John Andrew Graefer, who was commissioned by Queen Maria Carolina to build the English Garden as suggested by Sir William Hamilton. The cellars, on the other hand, served as a place for storing seeds: the constant freshness of the rooms allowed them to preserve the seeds during every season
