The Four Seasons Rooms

A Royal “welcome” to Ferdinand IV’s apartment

The Hereditary Prince’s Quarter, inhabited by Ferdinand IV and Maria Carolina, started with four conversation rooms, known as the “Four Seasons rooms”. The name that identifies them refers to the paintings on the vaults by Antonio de Dominicis and Fedele Fischetti, which are inspired by the cycle of the seasons.

The rooms have in common Murano glass chandeliers and the original eighteenth-century furnishings: tables, chairs and sofas, gilded corner cabinets and mirrors, the latter made by the artisans Gennaro Fiore and Bartolomeo Di Natale.

The Spring Room and the Winter Room are embellished with paintings by Jacob Phillip Hackert, an European renowned landscape painter, appointed by King Ferdinand IV as court painter.

The Autumn Room also holds surprises for art lovers. On the walls there are still lifes of the major Neapolitan artists of the eighteenth century specialized in this pictorial genre: Giacomo Nani, Tommaso Realfonso and Gaspare Lopez.
