Fontana dei Delfini

Tre mostri marini, la seconda fontana della Via d’Acqua

Il ponte d’Ercole e il successivo ponte di Sala consentirono a Carlo Vanvitelli di rispettare l’estensione del Parco Reale prevista dal padre, senza intaccare la viabilità della zona. Tra il primo e il secondo ponte si estende una vasca lunga 470 metri e larga 27. L’esedra che la conclude ospita tre immensi mostri marini, animati da potenti getti d’acqua. Alle loro spalle si trova una grotta. È a queste tre statue, disposte su un fondale in bugnato, che la Fontana dei Delfini deve il suo nome. Gli scultori Andrea Violani e Tommaso Solari furono incaricati della loro realizzazione a partire dal 1779.
