Cannocchiale

Due capitali del Regno unite dal virtuosismo prospettico

L’intreccio prospettico tra Palazzo e Parco è introdotto da un’invenzione scenografica destinata a stupire l’osservatore: una lunga galleria centrale, attraverso cui si può scorgere in lontananza la successione di fontane del Parco Reale. Questo spazio porticato prende il nome di “Cannocchiale” per l’effetto prospettico che crea nel collegare, lungo lo stesso asse, la Via d’Acqua della Reggia di Caserta con Viale Carlo III, che conduceva a Napoli.

Il Cannocchiale metteva in comunicazione l’interno con l’esterno, dando origine a un dialogo ideale tra la famiglia reale e il suo popolo.

Con le sue tre navate, il Cannocchiale serviva anche ad agevolare la circolazione: nella navata centrale passavano le carrozze, in quelle laterali i pedoni.
