Tempietto

Un elemento formale in un paesaggio all’inglese

Nella parte più bassa del parco, un intricato boschetto di lecci nasconde un piccolo tempio circolare. Ispirato al tempietto della Sibilla di Tivoli, quest’edificio neoclassico deve le sue origini a Ferdinando IV. Una costruzione simile si trova presso il Real Sito di Carditello. Nel 1790, il re chiese a Carlo Vanvitelli di integrare il progetto del Giardino Inglese, voluto da sua moglie, con un elemento tipico dei giardini all’italiana. Intorno al colonnato del tempietto fu realizzato un labirinto di siepi di bosso, oggi perduto.
