Il tavolo in legno pietrificato

Al centro della Sala dell’Estate è esposto un piccolo tavolino che nasconde un segreto particolare.

Il piano del tavolo, infatti, non è marmo ma una sezione di tronco d’albero pietrificato, opera dello scienziato e studioso di mineralogia Girolamo Segato. Appassionato di mummificazione, Segato viaggiò a lungo in Egitto studiando il processo di mummificazione perfezionato dal popolo egizio e ritornato in patria condusse molti esperimenti che mirarono alla conservazione dei materiali organici. Questo procedimento di pietrificazione è ancora oggi avvolto nel mistero perché lo studioso non volle mai rivelarne il segreto.
